When the topic of groundcovers is breeched, there are certain plants that inexorably come to mind. These are the plants that were used time and time again until they rose – or should I say sank – to the point of monotony, resulting in a search by gardeners for more interesting options.

March can be such a finicky month! Several years ago there was a long warm spell, only to be followed by two nights with extremely cold temperatures which killed many plants, including many Hydrangeas, to the ground! Some years we see snow storm after snow storm, while some years it is merely rain….

Endearing Flowers for a Fickle Month
Without question, March is a fickle month. Known for beginning as winter and ending as spring, it has also been known to start as spring and end with a snowstorm! Plants which bloom during this month are known for their resilience to extremes in weather. What is even more amazing is how delicate the flowers of many of these plants appear. To me, Iris have some of the most endearing and complex flowers a gardener can enjoy and incredibly, two of the bulbous Iris bloom in March!

Air Plants – A Trendy Plant with a Long Story!
It is no secret that plants, much like clothing go through trends. In fact, plants that are popular during one decade may not even be seen at nurseries during the decades to follow. Air Plants, botanically known as Tillandsia were a mere curiosity 10 years ago, and now are a ‘houseplant’ of great demand.
